Many pharmacies now have private consulting rooms and they are a good choice for help with minor health problems.

You do not need an appointment to see your pharmacist.

They can offer advice, suggest medicines or treatments, dispose of old medication and review your current medication plan.

You can see a pharmacist for all sorts of common ailments including coughs, colds, cystitis, skin conditions, aches and pains, and upset stomachs.

Most pharmacists also offer emergency contraception, needle exchange, methadone and needle exchange supervision, pregnancy tests, chlamydia screening and treatment, flu vaccines and services to help you quit smoking.

You can buy a range of medication for minor health problems for less than the cost of a prescription. The current charge for prescription medication is £8.40 per item. Details of who is exempt from prescription charges is available here.
